Last week was insane! It involved a literal whirlwind trip to Oregon for Doug’s sister’s wedding in the middle of nowhere. So, while I’m disappointed (again) in my mileage, I am thrilled that I was able to get back to back run days this weekend, including one with Doug. Did I mention this wedding was in the middle of nowhere? Meaning, after flying across the country to Portland, it was still another 4-5 hour drive to get to this place. Don’t get me wrong, breathtaking views of mountains and all, but still…4-5 hours…middle of no where.
I am also participating in Danielle of Live, Run, Grow’s Push-Up Challenge. OK, so I kind of just piggybacked myself onto her challenge, but it seemed like a good idea and something I needed/wanted to work on. Why am I explaining this? That way when you see just a random “5 Push-ups” or just a random push-up total, you know it’s part of the challenge.
Here we go!
Monday – Rest Day
Tuesday – 6 x 800m w/ 90 sec RI. Total Miles 3.5 (this sucked)
Wednesday – 35 sec work/10 sec rest of [Wall Throws w/ 10#, "Paint the Fence" with 2.5#HW, Burpees, Mountain Climbers/Swivel Planks] x 2 (that was a “warm-up” – ugh!); [Jump Squats (10), Dead Lifts w/ 17kg Kettlebells Each Hand (10), Back Rows w/ Body Weight (10), Woodchops w/ 12# (10), Side Lunges w/ 17kg Kettlebell (10), Elevated Knee-Ups w/ Arms Fully Extended (10)] x 3
Thursday – 5 Push-ups (started challenge), then off to airport for 4 hour delayed flight
Friday – Arrive in Portland at 4 a.m. PST. Run 5K. 5 Push-Ups. Drive 4-5 hours.
Saturday – Run 4 Miles with Doug. 5 Push-ups Wedding Day!
Sunday – Recover from Wedding. Totally forgot about Push-Ups. Drive 4-5 hours back to Portland. Hop on Red Eye back to NY. (I mentioned the whirlwind part, right?)
My 4 mile run on Saturday was supposed to be 8. I was doing the run with Doug (he wouldn’t do the full 8, but he was going to do part of it). Unfortunately, I had to wait for sleeping beauty to wake up. He didn’t wake up till 10 a.m., so by the time he was up, at breakfast, we were at the hottest part of the day. The temperature and how much time was left before the wedding didn’t allow for more mileage. Plus I was not feeling so well because, against my better judgment, I allowed Doug to talk me into eating the Eggs Benedict for breakfast…not a wise choice. Anyway, the run just proved why I do so much better running with someone. I was faster and didn’t give up as quickly with him. I just need to win lotto so I can hire someone to pace me at all races lol.
Also plus side of the week is discovering I’m stronger than I thought. I’m not saying I’m strong, but I am stronger. Those elevated knee-up things, I’m know sure if I’m describing them right, but I have to hold my self up on 2 parallel bars with my arms fully extended and no back support. I didn’t even think I could hold myself up, let alone hold myself up and then proceed to do sets of lifting my knees up. Yay me! (Yes, this is how weak I am that I get excited about that).
Sorry for the rant on the weekly recap, but, well, I’m a ranter in case you haven’t noticed. Goal for this week…8 mile run and try out the Galloway method.
And no worries, next time I will have pictures instead of just boring you with my words!
