Well, this week started amazingly as far as training goes (not so much cooking, we were eating left overs for most of the week). Then Nemo hit. Now, with a name like Nemo, you’d think this could be a fun Disney run, but in reality it messes with you training plans! What was supposed to be a 10 mile outdoor run got canceled. What was also supposed to be my first Yoga class had to get tossed too
I had to do my distance run on a treadmill. That many miles on a treadmill is so difficult for me, not physically, but mentally. But hey, a run on a treadmill is better than no run at all.
Monday – 6 x 800m with 90 second Recovery Intervals. Total Miles 3.5
Tuesday – Session with Trainer
Wednesday – 2 easy miles, 3 miles Short Temp, 1 easy mile. Total Miles 6
Thursday – Session with Trainer
Friday – supposed to be Yoga Class and 10 mile run, turned into rest day. Dinner: Pizza Roll
Saturday – 6.5 / 7.5 miles. It was hard for me to focus. I tried to get on the treadmill, couldn’t find my groove. Tried again later, with better success, but still not the 10. the 6.5 was what I did the 2nd time, the 7.5 includes the first attempt and warm-up.
Sunday – I min stairs, speed 13/forward squat presses @ 8# ea. (9 reps)/laterals @ 5# ea. (11 reps): set x 3. 250m row/”sit up” crunch (15 reps)/”sit up” crunch @6# (10 reps): set x 3. Bicep Presses @ 12.5# ea. (12 reps)/Butterflys @ 7.5# ea. (12 reps)/30 sec rest/Shoulder Presses @ 7.5# ea.(12 reps)/30 sec rest/Bicep curls @ 7.5# ea. (15 reps)/Skull crushers @ 5# ea. (12 reps): set x 2. Sauna 30 minutes. Dinner: Prime Rib (I <3 Omaha Steaks) and Creamy Polenta (I still <3 my crock pot).
So, what did this week teach me? Well, as you can see, I lack some serious upper body strength, but I’m working on it. I’ve also come a long way as far as my running. Doug pointed out, that although I did not do 10 miles, I didn’t give up. Last year, if I had gotten off the treadmill after my first failed attempt, I would have just made excuses and not tried again. This time, I tried again. Yay me! I also tried an ice bath again. While it feels so good on my legs, it was actually painful this time for me feet. Do they sell wet suit socks? I also learned that the Sauna is awesome. My trainer told me to get in there to help with my excess water weight (downside of drinking so much), but it was nice to just relax. And there it is.
Yes, they do sell wet suit type of socks you could use for an ice bath! I hate how it feels on my feet too. Sometimes I really feel like my feet need to be in the ice (if my arches are hurting), but other times I just sort of stick my feet out of the water since it’s so uncomfortable for them to be that cold!
My training got a little off track this weekend with all the snow too…I don’t have a treadmill (or belong to a gym) so if the weather’s too bad for outdoor running I’m sort of screwed : (
My bathtub is so small, it just seems like when I try taking my feet out, most of my leg goes out with it! It definitely feels good when my bunions act up, but my poor toes
And having a treadmill and gym membership has been a lifesaver for me (usually…I’ll explain in my next post). But, it’s still almost impossible for me to do my longs runs on it. I think I did 11 miles one time (out of desperation) and haven’t come close to that far again since.
Also, I keep meaning to ask you where you live, are you on Long Island? I don’t think we’re far from each other, we should get together for a run sometime!
I live in northern Queens, about 10-15 minutes from the Nassau border, well, the way I drive at least lol. And getting together for a run would be awesome! Having a running buddy helps keep me going when I’m ready to quit. So, if we’re close enough and you’re ok with jogging while I run , I’m down
I’m in Manhasset! We’re SO close! Let’s totally try to plan to get together for a run soon, I’m always looking for someone to run with, I don’t have any friends near me that run!
Get outta here! That is really close! Doug’s bff lives in Manhasset so we’re there all the time! I’d definitely be down for getting together for a run. But, I’m going to give you a chance to not worry about following through because, while running with you would be hugely beneficial for me, I would literally slow you down. You have been warned!
