So, this wasn’t a great week for training (and cooking) as far as the frequency of my runs and workouts went, but the quality was a LOT better. So although I didn’t do as much as I wanted to, I felt really good about what I did do, including running my fastest “distance” run to date…which may not be that fast to you, but it’s fast to me, so here we go!
Monday – Rest Day, I was fighting something again. Dinner: slow roasted pork shoulder (I <3 my crockpot)
Tuesday – session with trainer (just to give an idea, as a warm-up, we do 5,4,3,2,1s which is 500m row, 40 squat presses -that’s with weights, 30 sit-ups, 20 modified push-ups -I have no triceps and 10 Tricep dips. Did I mention this is a warm-up and not even the workout?) Anyway…Dinner: Baked Ziti, my first time using multi-grain pasta!
Wednesday – Run 400m, 600m, 800m, 1000m, 800m, 600m, 400m with 400m recovery intervals (4.5 miles). I felt REALLY good at not giving up at the speed I went.
Thursday – session with trainer. I showed a lot of progress in my training, so much so that I even got another “great job” text hours after I left. I never get those.
Friday – should’ve run, but instead babysat 20 month old twins. I dare anyone to tell me that’s not a workout!
Saturday – 1 easy mile, 5 miles at medium tempo (which I actually did more at my short tempo pace). Also assisted with 20 month old twins again
Sunday – SUPERBOWL. Superbowl parties are a holiday in my house and so, party prep is exhausting and leaves little time for anything else.
I had wanted to do 3 runs, I only got 2 in, but the 2 I did went really well. Plus after 6 miles I took my first ice bath! As soon as I was OK with losing all feeling in my feet, it was actually pretty relaxing and felt kinda good.
Love that you started some speedwork! I am going to try to start doing some this week too. Did you go to a track to do Wednesday’s workout? That’s always part of my problem, I am too lazy to go to a track to do it, but it’s hard to do workouts like that without a measured distance!
Completely agree about the measured distance! I actually have done the meter runs on a treadmill. It’s the best way, for me, anyway, to regulate my “speed” (so I don’t start taking it easy) and the distance. I’ve had to up the incline to compensate for not running on concrete. The tracks near me have the nerve of being all gated off! There used to be a hole in one of the fences I could sneak in through, but they fixed it
I know there’s a way on a Garmin to set distance intervals, but since I don’t have one (recommendations needed!) I don’t use it. If you have one, I can tell you how the program describes the set-up.
