So, yesterday’s post was all about how I was disappointed about my inability to be officially registered for the Dumbo Double Dare. That was yesterday. Today is a new day!
While browsing the blogs and the RunDisney facebook page, there was talk of the DDD still being opened for charities. Now, entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Am I actually crazy enough to spend $280 twice JUST to get that Dumbo medal? No. (Thought I would say yes, didn’t you?) However, besides wanting to do the DDD, one of the charities mentioned was the A-T Children’s Project. Having once had the desire to be a teacher, worked at a day care center, not to mention surrounded by friends and families kids, anything affecting/relating to children pulls extra hard on my heart strings. I’ve never heard of this disease ataxia-telangiectasia before this, but it’s bad. It’s affects multi-systems and essentially has the symptoms of muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, immune deficiencies, and cancer and all in a child. Once I read about this, how could I NOT try and raise money for them? I mean, I was running this thing anyway. I’ve been selfish with all my runs so far (ok, the W&D I had done to raise money for NY after Sandy, but that wasn’t until 2 weeks before the race). It’s about time I did these runs for someone besides me. It’s important to do these runs for someone besides me.
So while I’m not crazy enough to spend $280 twice just for an extra medal, I am crazy enough to defer my 1/2 marathon fee to another Disney 1/2, eat the cost of the 10K (ouch) and spend the $280 to help run and raise money for these kids.
If you want to help me raise money, here’s the site:
No worries if you don’t donate, won’t be offended, just trying to get word out there in any way I can!
If you were hoping to do the DDD and was unable to like I was, please consider registering for it with a charity!
Yeah! Good for you, what a great solution and I love that Doug is going to be running with you for the 10k! I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for you guys in your bride and groom hats!
I love that he’s willing to do it too! I’m actually really excited about it! Of course, he’s the type of guy who won’t have run all year long and I’ll be trying to keep up with him…hopefully the ears slow him down a little lol
And yeah, when I read about that charity, it was impossible for me to not want to help raise money for them. At least this way my RunDisney addiction helps someone.
