So, as we start 2013, I have no race that I am registered for, so therefore my run training has been pretty pathetic. I was trying to work on speed, dropping down to 5K when I run. But, I was sick last week. I felt light headed just standing let alone running, so I didn’t. I’ve still been going to the gym, but I haven’t run. So, I need a race and I need one stat!
A friend had suggested the Women’s Fitness Half Marathon. It’s on April 14. I’m hesitant to register for this one for a few reasons. I’m concerned about the amount of training time. Yes, there are 10 week plans, but this leaves little room for “off days” or “life happens” days. I’m also a little intimidated by the title of the race and the pictures on the site for it. I’ve only run Disney 1/2s so far, and there were people of all different levels and having fun with the race. I’m worried that I might be “too slow” for this Half. That’s actually my concern with any Half that isn’t a Disney, that they’re more competitive and I’m just not fast enough to be competitive. But, with all my vacation days being claimed already (not to mention the Princess Half is too soon), if I’m going to run a race in the first half of the year, I need to be local. I also wish I could see the course map. Last year’s course was 2+ laps around Central Park. I assume this years will be the same, but you never know.
I should probably quit being worried and (to quote Nike) “just do it.”
I’m actually looking for some spring races right now too .I wouldn’t worry about them being too competitive, especially a women’s event, I think a lot more people are running and entering races in recent years so you’re more likely to see all different finish times. Are you able to find a required pace on the event website? That may help to determine if it’s a good event for you…
There was no required pace on the website. At least not that I can find. I had wanted to work on my time before running another race, but at the same time I know without another race, I won’t run as much as I should. With this one, unlike the Disney ones, it just says it’s a capped race.
